Flying Star 2027: Sector-by-Sector Guide to the 2027 Flying Star Chart

The Flying Star 2027 chart puts the 9 Purple in the centre, the 1 White in the Northwest, the 2 Black in the West, the 3 Jade in the Northeast, the 4 Green in the South, the 5 Yellow in the North, the 6 White in the Southwest, the 7 Red in the East and the 8 White in the Southeast. The stars take their seats at Lichun on 4 February 2027. This guide goes through each of the nine sectors one by one: what the star is, how it interacts with the element of its sector, which rooms commonly fall there in Malaysian homes, and what I would do or leave alone.

My Feng Shui 2027 forecast gives the overview, including Tai Sui and the room-by-room remedies, and I will not repeat it here. This article is the close-up. If you want the background to the system first, my Period 9 Flying Stars guide explains how the twenty-year periods work.

The 2027 Annual Flying Star Chart

The grid below has North at the top, as the Lo Shu 洛书 (Luòshū) square is usually drawn for feng shui work.

NW: 1N: 5NE: 3
W: 2Centre: 9E: 7
SW: 6S: 4SE: 8

Each sector has its own element, taken from the Later Heaven bagua: the North is Water, the Northeast and Southwest are Earth, the East and Southeast are Wood, the South is Fire, the West and Northwest are Metal, and the Centre is Earth. Each star has an element as well: 1 is Water, 2 and 5 and 8 are Earth, 3 and 4 are Wood, 6 and 7 are Metal, and 9 is Fire. How the star’s element meets the sector’s element changes how strongly the star shows itself. In the productive cycle, Water feeds Wood, Wood feeds Fire, Fire feeds Earth, Earth feeds Metal and Metal feeds Water. In the controlling cycle, Wood breaks Earth, Earth dams Water, Water puts out Fire, Fire melts Metal and Metal cuts Wood.

How Period 9 Changes the Weight of 9, 1 and 8

We are in Period 9 九运 (Jiǔ Yùn), which runs from 2024 to 2043. In every period the stars are not equal.

  • 9 is the reigning star (旺 wàng) of the period. In 2027 it sits in the centre, which is the heart of every home.
  • 1 is the coming star (生 shēng), next in line for the following period. It sits in the Northwest this year.
  • 8 is the retreating star (退 tuì), the great wealth star of Period 8 from 2004 to 2023. It is still positive, but it no longer has the full weight it carried a few years ago. It sits in the Southeast.

So in 2027, the three most supportive stars of the period fall in the Centre, Northwest and Southeast. That makes these the sectors I would look to first for daily life. It does not make the other six dangerous. The 4 and 6 are mildly positive, the 3 and 7 are mostly about behaviour and security, and only the 2 and 5 are classically cautious.

Nine Sectors, One by One

Centre: 9 Purple 九紫 (Fire star in an Earth sector)

Fire produces Earth, so the star feeds its sector, and is slightly spent by it. The 9 is the period’s reigning star, associated with celebration, recognition and happiness. Because it sits in the heart of the home, it touches everyone. I keep this area bright, uncluttered and warmly lit. Avoid piling more Fire onto it with excess red decor, since a reigning star does not need extra fuel. In terrace houses the centre is often the stairs, a light well or the dining area, and in condominiums it is usually the corridor or the middle of the living-dining space.

Northwest: 1 White 一白 (Water star in a Metal sector)

Metal produces Water, so the sector nourishes the star, and the 1 is well supported here. As the coming star of Period 9, it is associated with career, flow and rising opportunity, and the Northwest is the sector of the household head and of helpful mentors. Use it for the desk, the home-office corner or the bedroom of the senior member of the household, and keep it tidy and well lit. Do not add more Water with fountains or tanks: Water on top of a Water star is too much. Common rooms here are a study, a master bedroom or a rear corner bedroom.

West: 2 Black 二黑 (Earth star in a Metal sector)

Earth produces Metal, so the star feeds the sector and is gently drained by it. The 2 is still the classical illness star, and the West is also the Three Killings direction in 2027, so it is the sector I would keep calmest. Traditionally, the cure is Metal, which draws more energy out of Earth: a brass or copper bowl, or a plain metal ornament placed quietly on a shelf. Avoid red lights, candles and ceramics that feed Earth, and avoid drilling or heavy work. If a bed for an elderly or unwell relative sits here, I would look at the arrangement carefully rather than panic. Common rooms are a bedroom, a bathroom or a rear kitchen.

Northeast: 3 Jade 三碧 (Wood star in an Earth sector)

Wood breaks Earth, so the 3 presses on its sector and is strong here. It is the star of quarrels, gossip and disputes. The Northeast is also the Sui Po (Year Breaker) side in 2027, as the North-Northeast slice sits inside this sector. Keep the area calm, and do not make it the stage for tense conversations. The classical way to quiet a Wood star is to draw down its energy with Fire, so a touch of red or warm tones (a cushion, a rug, a lampshade) is enough. I would avoid crowding it with large leafy plants, which add more Wood. Typical rooms are a corner bedroom, a store room or a family study.

East: 7 Red 七赤 (Metal star in a Wood sector)

Metal cuts Wood, so the star dominates the sector. The 7 is traditionally the star of arguments, loss and theft. The remedy is mostly practical: good locks, tidy valuables, no cash on display, and a household habit of cooling down before heated phone calls. If you want an element remedy, Water draws energy out of Metal, so quiet blue or black accents suit it better than anything metallic. In an east-facing terrace house this sector is the porch, the main door and the living room, so security matters there. In condos it is often a bedroom or the balcony.

South: 4 Green 四綠 (Wood star in a Fire sector)

Wood produces Fire, so the star feeds its sector, though in a gentle and harmless way. The 4 is associated with study, writing, design and romance. It is a pleasant star for a reading corner, a child’s desk, an art space or a quiet workspace. Healthy plants suit it. There is little to avoid, except letting paper and books pile up until the sector feels stuffy. In a south-facing terrace house it is the front living room and porch, and in many condos it is the kitchen or a living room window.

Southwest: 6 White 六白 (Metal star in an Earth sector)

Earth produces Metal, so the sector supports the star. The 6 stands for authority, helpful people and heavenly assistance. It is a positive star, but note that the Tai Sui sits in the South-Southwest, which is the first slice of the Southwest palace. So the right approach is to enjoy the 6 gently: use the sector, sit in it, and let it be. Do not drill, hack or break ground there. Rooms commonly found here include a bedroom for the mother or an elder, and a guest or family room.

Southeast: 8 White 八白 (Earth star in a Wood sector)

Wood breaks Earth, so the sector presses on the star, and in Period 9 the 8 is already retreating. It is a wealth star, but treat it as a steady helper, not a jackpot. Keep it bright, tidy and lived in, and do not rely on one corner to carry your finances. Typical rooms are a dining area, a home office, or the front of a house that faces southeast. Many families place a wealth corner here, as I describe in my feng shui wealth corner guide.

North: 5 Yellow 五黃 (Earth star in a Water sector)

Earth dams Water, so the Five Yellow dominates the North, and it is the most feared star of the year. It stands for obstruction, setbacks and disruption, not catastrophe. The rule is stillness: no drilling, hacking or major rearrangement in this sector. Metal weakens it, so a brass or copper bowl or a plain metal ornament sits well, and Fire and Earth items (red lights, candles, crystal clusters, ceramics) do not. In a south-facing terrace house, the North is the rear: the wet kitchen, the yard or a back bedroom. If the stove is in the North, keep it very clean and well ventilated.

The Annual Stars Sit on Top of Your House’s Natal Chart

Everything above describes a year, not a house. Your home also has a fixed natal chart, set by the facing direction and the period in which it was completed. The annual stars fly into each sector and interact with the base stars already living there. The same 8 White can sit on a supportive natal combination in one house and a weak one in another. And two neighbours with similar floor plans but different facing directions may have different years.

To use this chart properly, take a compass reading at the main door, divide your floor plan into nine sectors (my bagua map guide shows how), and mark where the bedrooms, kitchen, study and entrance fall. The overlay with the natal chart is the part where a trained eye helps most. A house built in Period 8 reads differently from one built in Period 9, which is something I check on every visit.

Quiet Remedies, and What Not to Do

I prefer remedies that are small, quiet and consistent with what is already in my Feng Shui 2027 guide.

  • For the 5 (North) and 2 (West): Metal. A brass or copper bowl, a plain metal ornament, kept on a shelf and left alone.
  • For the 3 (Northeast): a little red or warm Fire colour, plus calm behaviour.
  • For the 7 (East): good locks, tidy valuables, and optionally quiet Water tones.
  • For the 1, 9 and 8: no cure needed, just light, tidiness and use.

And here is what I advise against:

  • No loud wind chimes. A chime that rings all night adds noise to the 2 and 5, which both prefer stillness.
  • No drilling, hacking or ground-breaking in the Tai Sui (South-Southwest), Sui Po (North-Northeast) or Three Killings (West) directions. The same goes for the North, because of the 5 Yellow.
  • No shopping for ten cures at once. Do three well, and leave the rest.
  • No rushed furniture moves out of panic. If a bed or desk sits in a cautious sector, ask for a reading before you rearrange the home.

How 2027 Differs From 2026

The biggest change is that the Five Yellow moves from the South to the North, and the Two Black from the Northwest to the West, as the centre star steps down from 1 to 9. The sectors that were cautious last year are released at Lichun, and new ones take their place. My Flying Star 2026 guide covers the earlier chart, and my Lichun 2027 guide explains exactly when the stars change over.

Common Questions

When do the 2027 Flying Stars start? At Lichun on 4 February 2027, 09:46 Malaysia time, not at Chinese New Year on 6 February.

Where is the Five Yellow in 2027? In the North. It moves from the South in 2026. Keep the North still and use a quiet Metal item.

Do I have to change my bedroom if it falls in the North or West? No. Most families should not move house or bedroom because of an annual star. Keep the room calm and uncluttered, avoid renovation, and have your natal chart read if you are worried.

Do the annual stars apply the same way to every house? No. They interact with your home’s natal chart, so the same star can feel different in two homes. I treat the annual chart as the weather and the natal chart as the building.

Which animals need extra care in 2027? The Goat, Ox, Dog and Rat, which I cover in the Fan Tai Sui 2027 guide. That is about the person, while the flying stars are about the place.

Key Takeaways

  • The 2027 chart is Centre 9, NW 1, W 2, NE 3, S 4, N 5, SW 6, E 7, SE 8, starting at Lichun on 4 February 2027.
  • In Period 9, the 9 reigns, the 1 is coming and the 8 is retreating. In 2027 they sit in the Centre, Northwest and Southeast.
  • The Five Yellow is in the North and the Two Black in the West. Both are weakened by Metal, so use a quiet brass or copper item.
  • The 3 Jade (Northeast) is calmed by behaviour and a touch of red; the 7 Red (East) by good locks and cool tempers.
  • Do not use loud wind chimes, and do not drill or break ground in the South-Southwest, North-Northeast, West or North.
  • The annual stars overlay your home’s natal chart. They are a weather report, not a verdict on your house.
