The Chinese almanac — Tong Shu (通胜) — is one of the oldest continuous publications in human history. Consulted for over a thousand years, it provides a daily energetic forecast based on the Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, lunar mansions, and the movement of qi through time.
The Tong Shu (通胜, literally "all-winning") is an annual almanac that has been published continuously in China and Southeast Asia for centuries. It is both a practical calendar and a metaphysical reference — combining astronomy, the lunar calendar, and classical Chinese cosmology into a daily guide.
Every day in the almanac is rated according to a complex interplay of factors: the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch of the day, the current lunar mansion (宿), the twelve day-officers (十二建), the relationship with the year's Tai Sui (太岁, Grand Duke), and the position of the nine flying stars.
In Malaysian Chinese culture, the Tong Shu is consulted before major decisions: selecting a wedding date, choosing a day to sign a business contract, timing a renovation or house move, or picking an auspicious date to open a new business.
